Artist's Statement:

I grew up in a military family in Germany and started painting in high school. I was fortunate enough to be
exposed to some of the world's great art through our family vacations throughout Europe. In Germany, I learned to
paint in the very methodical, traditional "old masters" technique, using egg tempera and thin layers of color and
varnish.

While studying art history, I found myself drawn to expressionist artists and their distortion and exaggeration of
reality for emotional effect. I gradually developed my own looser expressionist style. I love to evoke intensity of
feeling - There is so much depth of emotion in the human condition. I hope that my paintings will also have some
power of evocation for the viewer. I usually don't title my pieces, as it leads the viewer to see my paintings as I
see them. I prefer that each person come to their own conclusion, based on their personal experiences and frame
of reference.

I have recently found a new passion in photography as well. I love to share photographs of things I see in nature,
especially details and abstractions in composition, light and texture.

Lastly, pet portraits are something that bring me joy - and help pay the bills. I love animals and I love capturing
the personality of someone's best friend in a memento that they can keep forever.
